Removal of heavy metals from stormwater runoff using granulated drinking water treatment residuals

چکیده
Stormwater runoff is a significant source of heavy metals, including cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni), which pose ecological human health problems. Various filter media have been evaluated for metal removal from stormwater via adsorption, most involving chemical- or energy-intensive processes. Aluminum-based drinking water treatment residuals (WTR), non-hazardous byproduct treatment, are an inexpensive sorbent metals. However, the low permeability WTR problem requires mixing with sand carbon materials to improve flow; but such amendments also reduce its sorption capacity. To overcome this problem, granulated was generated using green technique organic low-energy process. Batch studies showed that granules remove Cd, Cr, Ni simultaneously. Metal adequately described by pseudo-second-order kinetic models Langmuir Freundlich isotherm models. The overall performance Cr > Cd Ni. presence divalent cations in solution negatively affected removal; anions had strong effect on removal. متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Point-Of-Use Drinking Water Treatment Units in Removal of Heavy Metals and Dissolved Solids from Drinking Water Supply in Tabriz
Introduction: Application of point-of-use (POU) drinking water treatment units is expanding across the world due to the increased concerns about the adverse health effects of water pollution. The main treatment systems of these devices are mostly activated carbon and nano-filter or reverse osmosis. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of using POU units on phy...
متن کاملRemoval of Heavy Metals from Waste Water Using Water Hyacinth
-Water pollution has become one of the most serious problems of today’s civilization. In the last few years considerable amount of research has been done on the potential of aquatic macrophytes for pollutant removal or even as bio-indicators for heavy metals in aquatic ecosystems. Water hyacinth is one of the aquatic plant species successfully used for wastewater treatment. It is very efficient...
متن کاملTreatment Of Heavy Metals In Stormwater Runoff Using Wet Pond And Wetland Mesocosms
Urban stormwater runoff is being recognized as a major source of pollutants to receiving waters and a number of recent investigations have evaluated stormwater runoff quality and best management practices to minimize pollutant input to receiving waters. Particle-bound contaminants are widespread in the urban environment causing impairment to urban water bodies such as streams and lakes. Non-poi...
متن کاملNatural Zeolites Application as Sustainable Adsorbent for Heavy Metals Removal from Drinking Water
Background: There are great resources of natural zeolite in Iran. Zeolite, an inorganic ion-exchanger, may be used as a suitable technical-economical solution for water treatment in many regions of Iran. In this study, the characterization of natural zeolite natrolite and the feasibility of removing hardness, cations, and anions were investigated. Methods: First, zeolite composition and type...
